Now IronCAD Product Update 1 for version 2020 has arrived!

Great new features in IRONCAD

IronCAD Every year LLC issues a new full release with many new features added. In between, there are also a number of Service Packs and a Product Update. A Service Pack (SP) mainly contains fixes and quality improvements. A Product Update (PU) contains both new features and quality improvements.

Now IronCAD 2020 Product Update 1 has arrived! Since the end of March, it has been thoroughly tested on selected users and dealers worldwide and contains a lot of features that really streamline work in a smart way. The goal has been to increase performance and continue to improve quality and usability that makes the design process more productive.

Below are some of the news in PU1

-Improvements in the handling of large assemblys

- New functions and possibilities to create 2D drawings

- Increased user-friendliness and improved interface

- General improvements

Some things in particular to highlight

In terms of handling large assemblys, performance has been improved in Open, Save and Import large files. In 2D drawing (ICD), performance has been improved in depicting large files on drawing views. In addition, a new simple and user-friendly function has been added to quickly create a new drawing depicting the selected part or assembly. As a user, simply right-click and select "create drawing" of an object selected in the 3D scene - and the desired 2D drawing template will open! This feature is really great and will certainly be well used.

Excluding screw, nut and washer

Another time-saving setting in the 2D drawing (ICD) is that you can easily choose to exclude screws, nuts and washers (fasteners) from being cut via a setting. As a user, you save a lot of time by not having to select these in a dialog to avoid them being marked for cutting as other geometry.

Convert drawing to PDF via right click

What many users of IRONCAD may not have known before is that the 2D drawing file (*.icd) also stores a PDF version. With the installation of PU1, a function is installed at the same time to directly open the *.icd file as a PDF or to create a new separate PDF file based on the 2D drawing in the right-click menu of Windows Explorer! This allows the user to very quickly produce a PDF version of the 2D drawing without first having to open and export it in IRONCAD. The function is also available as a stand-alone installation file, so that e.g. production can more quickly access drawings via a common file/drawing archive.

News in sheet metal bending

Also in sheet metal bending there are new features in PU1, such as the ability to automatically create soft transitions between certain bends and oblique connecting edges. This allows the user to get a nice transition (also called Corner Relief under Bend Properties) faster than before, which can be easily unfolded to a cutting template in e.g. DXF format. Sometimes there is a need to create a Sheet Metal plate with a transition from square/rectangle to a circular shape. IRONCAD already solves this brilliantly via the Press Bend function in the Loft tool. A new feature in PU1 is that the Loft tool now handles more sharp corners in the square, i.e. the bend lines start from the same point in their fan shape. More functions for parameter control of various properties are added in Sheet Metal.

Functions via Quick-Access

For the right-click menu, a Quick Access menu (a selected list of frequently used functions) is now also displayed above the menu in a logical way. Which buttons it contains is also customizable. When new versions and updates are released by IRONCAD , the user can be notified that this is happening. This is done through a Live Update function which has now been given a proper refresh of the interface and now also handles so-called Add-In programs. As a user, you can set which updates are of interest to be notified when new versions are released.
