More about IRONCAD features

Triball - Free, lightning fast and with full precision

TriBall is a great tool with many features in IRONCAD and is used to move, copy or modify anything in 3D. With full freedom, lightning fast and still with full precision. Replaces the need for Planes. Pull a handle and snap to other parts, even in other assemblies, to make precise changes in seconds.

Catalogs with Drag & Drop

IRONCAD has a catalog system that makes work faster than you thought possible. You can drag & drop, for example, a positive or negative extrusion or loft shape that you can quickly use to create new parts or build on existing ones. This applies to all types of features, parts and assemblies. Of course, everything you create in 3D can be dragged out and saved in your own unique catalogs for reuse with the fast drag and drop technology.

Mechanisms - in IRONCAD

IRONCAD you maximum freedom in design without forcing you to use constraints. You work quickly and intuitively – with complete flexibility. When needed, you can easily control features, parts, and assemblies with locks and parametric dimensions. You get both creative freedom and precise control – on your terms. Watch the video in your preferred language using the buttons below.

The sketch - in IRONCAD

In IRONCAD, you can easily create 3D models from a 2D sketch. By drawing in a plane, you can quickly build cross-sections that can be extruded, rotated, lofted, or swept into finished 3D shapes. The sketch in IRONCAD does not need constraints to give you full control and precision.

You can choose between importing finished 3D shapes from catalogs that have already been created from 2D profiles or creating new ones via 2D sketch.

Intelligent models for configurations

IRONCAD solves the need to create different variants of a product incredibly efficiently. Drag & drop smart parts from catalogs. These are attached together magnetically and also change size automatically depending on where you place them. Dimensions of entire assemblies are adjusted in a flash by pulling handles - done!

With IRONCAD you use parametric design when it suits and free design in the normal case. You can choose freely between both methods and can also use several methods within the same part. Complete and customized solutions can be created easily and quickly!

Create and modify directly in the compilation

File management in IRONCAD is a real time saver. Design directly in the assembly in a single file, regardless of whether the design consists of 1 or 10,000 parts. Link parts to external files only if and when you want to. You can focus on design instead of administration. You don't have to create a part in a separate file and guess whether it will fit in the assembly. You can create sub-assemblies with a click of the mouse in the 3D scene. Genuine "Top-Down design"! Of course, you can also link existing files "Bottom-Up".

Sheet Metal, powerful sheet metal bending and spreading features included in IRONCAD

With IRONCAD's Sheet Metal features, you create bent sheets in 3D. Easy-to-use tools create features that can be changed with handles or in clear menus. Quickly close corners or manage settings on a single bend. Change material or thickness with a mouse click. Then unfold the part and export to DXF for laser cutting - faster and easier than ever!

From 3D model to 2D drawing - quick and easy

Once you have created your design in 3D, you can depict it on a 2D drawing in IRONCAD. If it is an assembly, a BOM list with all its parts is automatically created. You can easily measure a part according to ISO standards, including tolerances and to create a complete manufacturing basis. If the 3D model changes, the 2D drawing is automatically updated. The drawing is always saved as a PDF and can be exported to DWG/DXF.

From 3D to drawing - easily with DRAFT or ICD

IRONCAD has two parallel 2D solutions and as a user you can choose which one you prefer. Both can show and dimension 3D models created in IRONCAD. Many people use the ICD module because it is so fast and easy to use.

DRAFT has a more traditional 2D CAD interface and is similar to AutoCAD 2D. DRAFT also allows you to open, edit and save DWG/DXF drawings which is a great advantage - no separate program is needed for this. You can easily create new 2D drawings including e.g. hydraulic diagrams. Standard symbols are included.

IRONCAD has BOTH Parasolid and ACIS

IRONCAD unique in that it uses two different solid kernels: ACIS from Spatial and Parasolid from Siemens. You can switch between them as needed and always choose the kernel that works best.

The result is that you can create geometries that cannot be done with just one kernel, you have fewer problems and even better results when importing.

View your 3D model via IronCAD Web Viewer

IronCAD Web Viewer is a great tool for showing your 3D CAD models to others. Since it only requires a web browser, this tool is great for explaining what is meant by easy presentation, sales and collaboration. No installation of a separate 3D viewer or other software is needed to view the files. You can even show your products in 3D on your website like our example here.

Keeping your files and projects in order

With DDM you get a powerful tool to work more efficiently with CAD files but also other documents and file types. You can easily gather all the information about a product in one place. This allows everyone to know which version of a particular drawing is the latest, but also to quickly get answers to questions like "what did the machine we delivered in January 2015 look like?". A development project often contains a lot of data such as CAD files, Office documents, emails, images etc. which in DDM can be collected in a project folder. All files will then be accessible to all project members and easily managed by audit. Collaboration becomes easier and the project can be managed in a graphical workflow so that everyone knows what the status is, when it is finished etc.

DDM is a PLM solution that delivers immediate benefits

Solidmakarna has over 25 years of experience as a supplier to the engineering industry. We have delivered various software and product development services to many types of customers. We understand the need for efficiency and quality assurance throughout the product development process. We transform the customer's requirement specification into a basic configured DDM installation that rarely takes more than a day to put in place. An installation that includes everything from setting up users and group memberships to configuring processes, workflows, parts lists, change management and more. Add to this 2 days of training and you have a complete solution installed and ready to use in 3 days. DDM is also an excellent support for ISO and FDA approval.

Solidmakarna has a close cooperation with CSI which ensures the daily support as well as information about news in DDM. This leads to continuous further development of the customer's installation and processes. Please take 5 minutes to watch and listen to Joe McBurnie, CEO of CSI as he highlights the benefits of DDM at a headline level in the video clip on the left.

We offer the possibility of a test installation of DDM at your company - please contact us about this.

DDM

Typical arguments from our customers about why they chose DDM:

  • The key was that DDM is a good program
  • DDM is complete solution from the start, includes what we need
  • Price, competing solution much more expensive

MAC users? Important information before ordering

Apple uses its Metal graphics routine in newer MACs. Many programs do not work well with Metal (yet). Rhinoceros 7 may slow down as files get larger. Therefore, it is important to try Rhino 7 properly on your MAC before purchase if you are unsure. This will be resolved in future versions of Rhino. Download the Rhino 7 trial version here
