Why not save time and money by letting a robot do the job instead? Mora Automation and Robotechnology AB (MARAB) in Mora has been helping companies to automate since 1999. Automation, for example with the help of a robot, can increase efficiency and even replace monotonous and dangerous tasks. But as a customer, it is also important to get support and the right information from an experienced supplier in order to get the most optimal solution. For example, you also want to get a good overall financial calculation before the investment. This is what MARAB delivers to its customers.
For many years, IRONCAD has been used to create its various solutions. The program is used for everything from initial layout and customer dialogue to detailed drawing. Matilda Bastman at MARAB explains:
"We have been using IRONCAD for several years now and it has worked really well. Our projects usually start with a drawing of the plant we have been asked to do to see how it will be as good as possible and to be able to visualise it for the client. The basis from the customer can sometimes be a 2D drawing describing the existing workshop layout. The 2D drawing can be easily entered as the reference 3D environment in IRONCAD. In the same 3D environment, whole or parts of previously created robot cells can then be quickly placed using the Drag o Drop technique from the catalogues in the side of the screen. The customer gets a clear picture of what our solution looks like. And a very important feature is that we can easily modify a proposal, upon customer request."
One area that MARAB has been very successful in is machine operation with its new product line of standardised robot cells. For example, a milling machine must constantly be supplied with new blanks and already machined parts must be picked from the machine. A robot cell from MARAB can solve this brilliantly. The robot picks parts either from a pallet that is set up in the cell or from a conveyor belt that is loaded from outside. The robot can then visually see what is coming into the cell on the conveyor belt with a so-called vision system and also how the parts are oriented. The robot finds the details all by itself. With both pallet and conveyor, the machine can run unattended for a long time. To be able to grip the part, MARAB has developed an elaborate solution with special gripping tools. These grippers are designed with great accuracy and can be adapted to the customer's specific requirements. Often Fanuc robots are used that can interface their control system with MARAB solutions.
A feature of the robotic solution, called Q-Celler, is that it can be pushed aside to access the machine. The cell stands on rails that make this possible. This makes servicing and maintenance much easier The cell also has tempered glass walls that provide good visibility all around. As for the CAD tool that was used extensively to produce these various products, Matilda continues:
"A big advantage of IRONCAD is that a 3D file contains as many partners and sub-assemblies as you want, we don't have to link out partners to our own files until we think it's time. That feature also makes it easy to break any external links to create a new version of an existing machine. We then know that no link goes to the original machine."
