An internally or externally linked summary can now be set to “flexible.” This is a new feature introduced in version 2027.

This means that, even among several different linked assemblies, it may still be permissible for components to be located in a different position or rotated to a different orientation.
A clear example of this is an externally linked hydraulic cylinder whose two “moving halves” are locked to each other and to other parts by constraints. Previously, it was not possible to use multiple instances of the exact same ICS file in the same 3D scene, because changes made to one of the instances had to be immediately replicated to the others.
This fundamental change now also opens up the possibility of running kinematic mechanisms (Mechanism Mode), in which each linked assembly can still be “handled individually”—that is, the individual components can have different positions, even though they all belong to the exact same shared ICS file (3D scene).
The "Make Assembly Flexible" option appears both in the " Interaction " right-click menu on an internally or externally linked summary, and under the Assembly and Tools when a linked report is selected.
If you want to “ Assembly ” the assembly, the same button instead displays the option “Make Rigid,” and the components “jump back” to their original positions.
