We have received a few reports from different users where it is not possible to import STEP files or that the constituent parts are scattered or in the wrong place. This applies to both IronCAD DCS 2024 and 2023.

Replacing the standard solid kernel

Start by changing the solid kernel from Parasolid to ACIS or vice versa through the basic settings under Tools, Options and don't forget to press OK and close after making your choice.

Options IRONCAD

Then try to import the file again. If this still doesn't work, read on below.

If the parts end up scattered

Go to Import Options, at the bottom right of the box where you import files.

Turn off the setting If multi-body import as Strucure Part.

This setting was accidentally enabled by default with v2023.00, but from PU1 (v2023.01) it should be disabled directly.

If you cannot select any of the solid cores in the IRONCAD

1) Close IRONCAD.

2) Download this registry file that restores some missing lines in the registry that handles the solid state cores:

For IronCAD DCS 2024:

For IronCAD DCS 2023:

OBS! Be careful what registry files you find online, be careful about making changes to the Windows registry! A *.reg file is a plain text file and it is therefore relatively easy to figure out if it contains the "wrong kind" of changes.

3) Once the *.reg file is downloaded, you can double-click on it to add the registry entry.

4) When this box appears, click Run.

Cannot import STEP

5) Click Yes to allow your User Account Control to make the change in the registry.

6) Click Yes on this box, which is another warning to be careful with the Windows registry.

register add

7) When the change is made, click OK on this box.

Start IRONCAD again and test if you can now import the same STEP file.
