The Trim command is used to trim (crop) parts or surfaces with other parts and surfaces. This is similar to a Boolean operation but with many more possibilities and the cutting part is not removed.
The Trim command allows you to use parts, surfaces, planes and 3D curves. The tool is also able to automatically extend the curve on the surface if the curve does not completely intersect the trimmed surface. The Offset property allows you to set a tolerance (distance) to other surfaces.
It is also possible to trim a part using another part or using a selected set of surfaces. This is useful if you want to trim a framework where two beams intersect (TIP!). Here you can use the smart tool Trim Steels if the beams are created by the extension in the IC Mechanical).
In addition to this short description of the Trim command in the IRONCAD we recommend that you also watch the movie above.
Launch the Trim command under the tab Feature.
(1) Select the part to be trimmed(Target Part), in this case the green-highlighted bottom plate. (2) Select the part to be used as trim tool (Trimming Part), in our case the gear. (3) Execute by pressing the green check mark.
The result is a negative copy of the gear in our base plate. A major advantage of this command is that the trimming part (the gear) is not removed when the Trim command is completed, unlike a Boolean operation, where the part is instead converted to a negative feature (and therefore "disappears").
