Sometimes you want to know that a 3D model cannot change shape or be moved and rotated. The reason may be that you have imported* a model that is to act as a "reference" and which absolutely must not be changed, or that you are using an ICS file from another project.
There are two simple types of "absolute" but still "temporary" locks in terms of "form" and "position". Absolute because they cannot be circumvented in any way, but at the same time temporary because the functions are easily switched on and off as needed.
The Lock property prevents a model from being changed and at the same time a padlock is displayed next to the Anchor point and in the history tree.
*When importing 3D models such as a STEP or Parasolid file, a "better" option may be to import the file as a Reference Part. Such a part cannot be changed, not in any way. But you can, if necessary, with a click of the mouse, easily change it to be a completely normal and fully editable Innovative Part.
The Fixed in Parent property prevents a model from being moved while a pin is displayed next to the Anchor Point and in the history tree.
This function is mainly used to fix models locked together with constraints when testing kinematic mechanisms. This setting ensures that there is some "fixed point" to which other models relate. See more about mechanisms in another post.
