Not everyone may be aware that the key widths of M10 and M12 nuts are different, depending on whether they follow the DIN 934 or ISO 4032 standard. In the picture below, you can see that an M10 nut can be either 16 or 17 mm wide, while an M12 nut can be either 18 or 19 mm wide. This is also the case for the less common M14 nuts which can be either 21 or 22 mm wide.

When purchasing nuts from different suppliers, it is therefore important to choose the right standard, so that you have the right tools for installation!

The tool Fasteners via the extension IronCAD Mechanical has different tables to choose from and you can easily add dimensions if there are special dimensions or any standard that is missing. We have a separate blog post on modifying existing tables.

Make sure you choose the right table depending on the standard of nut you are ordering.
