When reusing sheet metal parts via Insert Part/Assembly it is important that you connect the link correctly, which is a simple step to perform. But which may still require some explanation. The video below goes through how to think when linking in saved sheets that are also extended or have other objects in the 3D scene.
Keep in mind that IRONCAD does not distinguish between Part or Assembly through different file formats, which is common in the vast majority of other 3D CAD systems. With IRONCAD there is a single 3D format - *.ics - which handles one or more 3D models in a single file. If a saved 3D scene contains a single Part you can call it a Part file and if the 3D scene contains more than one Part, then you can call it an Assembly file if you want to. But basically it is always a 3D scene.
To "reuse" a previously saved IRONCAD 3D Scene containing both a Sheet Metal part and its parallel "twin model" (and maybe more parts) can be a tricky step to get right. It is important that you choose to link only to the folded sheet metal part.
With a new feature from v2024, this step has now become even easier and you can see and select in the story tree and get a preview of exactly what you have selected and want to link in.
Answer: Here we publish tips, guides, news and solutions for those who work with IRONCAD and Design Data Manager (DDM).
