It is possible to find the moment of inertia for any cross-section by using the section tool in IRONCAD.
Select the part you want to calculate and then select the SectionPart/Assembly tool under the Tools tab. With the tool running, select the Define Section Tool function. Then select the surface, edge or vertex point where you want to section and make sure you select the correct orientation of the section to get the cross-section you want. When you are satisfied with the result, press the green check mark to exit the command.
Locate the SectionTool in the history tree and right-click on it. Then select the Create Section Geometry option.
Select the profile generated from the command and go to the Analysis function under the same Tools tab in the toolbar. Select theMoment of Inertia tab. Calculate by pressing the Calculate button. A dialog box appears if you want to treat the surface model with a surface mass, then press No.
